2012, reviewed

Lists / The House

Well, 2012 seemed to be gone in the blink of an eye! I have a lot of catching up to do, but in the meantime, let’s look back at how I did with the house goals for 2012. Here is what I had hoped to accomplish:

Inside:

Move furnace up to attic
Insulation in the attic
Refresh, repair, re-glaze, and re-trim all the windows
Finish guest bedroom

Outside:

Courtyard and herb garden
Bees!
Spruce up the curb appeal a bit
Modifications to veggie garden
Play set and metal frame gone
Continue working on building up soil health

Bonus Points:

living room bead board out and drywall replaced/repaired
built in cabinets in living room and/or dining room
fireplace and mantle replacement
design a back yard master plan
replace fence

How did I actually do? Well . . . here is the progress:

Inside

Move furnace up to the attic – DONE! With a brand new AC and furnace to boot.
Refresh, repair, re-glaze, and re-trim all the windows – PARTIALLY DONE! The windows are operational again, but many need to have paint stripped before they are stained.
Finish guest room – PARTIALLY DONE! Drywall and paint complete, floors and details yet to come

Outside

Courtyard and herb garden – MOSTLY DONE!
Bees – DONE! We have bees and I have had a few stings to prove it
Veggie garden – MOSTLY DONE! We are still tinkering, but we have managed to have fresh veggies every year
Soil health – still plugging away

Bonus

Living room bead board out and drywall repaired – PARTIALLY DONE! One wall down, two to go

Everything else? Not even started. Boo.

On the bright side, I have been searching for balance between all the different parts of my life, and Mike and I did manage to accomplish some other things too:

Sprint triathlons (both)
Two half marathons (both)
One full marathon (me)
One half ironman (me)
One full ironman (Mike)
One 200 mile relay (both)
Several bike rallies (both)

Took a trip to Key West, spent almost two weeks in Peru, and Thanksgiving in Cozumel.

Adopted a cat.

Threw some parties, attended some parties and a wedding. Went to baseball games, dance recitals, and a graduation. Spent time with family and friends. Ate a lot of good food and drank a lot of good wine.

I have had a few moments of frustration that I am not further along with the house, but when I look at what we’ve managed to do this year, I can’t complain at all.

Bring it on, 2013! I am feeling pretty productive!
